What does it do? A dry contact, also called a volt-free contact, is a relay contact that does not supply voltage. The relay energizes or de-energizes when a change to its input has occurred. In other words, a dry contact simply detects whether or not an input switch is open or closed.
What is the purpose of a dry contact?
Dry Contacts is used to provide isolation between devices. Wet contacts provide the same power for controlling the device. Hence it does not provide isolation between devices. Dry contacts are also known as “Passive” contacts.
Are all relays dry contact?
All relays, including solid-state relays, use dry contacts. One of the advantages of using a relay at all is it provides the ability to get a different output voltage from that which was used to energize it. For example, a relay may have a 24V coil, but the contacts may allow nearly any voltage level for the load.
What is the difference between dry contact and wet contact?
A 'wet' contact is connecting a hose to a spigot that is flowing water. A 'dry' contact is connecting a hose to a spigot that is turned off.

You can test the resistance across the coil terminals to see if the coil shows continuity or not. You should see some resistance, depending on the coil, it will be low or high, or somewhere in-between. The point is you don't want it to show open. If the coil is open then the relay is dead.
